About The Story of Folic Acid

Dr. Saraiya traces the history of folic acid from the 19th century and reviews the contributions of Dr. Lucy Wills and Dr. Yellappa Subbarao for reducing fetal wastage and solving the mystery of folic acid. Further research established the Importance of folates in embryonic development, the genesis of megaloblastic anaemia, prevention of early birth defects especially neural tube defects. L methyl folate is superior to folic acid. Preconceptional use of folic acid will reduce fetal wastage.

About Usha Saraiya

Dr. Usha Saraiya is a practicing Obstetrician & Gynaecologist from Mumbai, India. She was formally honorary professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Mumbai University. She has served the Association of Medical Women in India in various capacities as Secretary, Treasurer, Editor of Journal. She was Chairman & Board of Trustees of Mumbai Branch & is currently the All India President.

She has also served as the President - Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India, Indian Academy of Cytologists & as Chairman of the Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She has edited 7 Text Books & published over 100 scientific papers.
