Having been qualified as a Pediatrician from KEM Hospital, Dr Ramesh Potdar joined Topiwala National Medical College and B Y L Nair Hospital, Mumbai as Honorary Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor of Pediatrics .In addition to being a UG,PG Teacher and Examiner, he pursued a career in Social Pediatrics through his work in an NGO in Bandra east called Centre for the Study of social Change (CSSC) since last 25 years of which he is the President and Research Director.

He was Honorary Secretary General, Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) between 1984-1988 where he developed nine new sub-speciality chapters in IAP, creating new opportunities for paediatric super-specialisation in India. He became President of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics in 1992, Member of the Standing committee,IPA ( International Paediatric Association) (IPA) 1992-1998, President of APPSEAR ( Association of Paediatric Societies of South-East Asia Region) 1994-1997, President of 8th Asian Congress of Paediatrics held in New Delhi, India 1994.

He has two Research Awards to his credit, “Outstanding Paediatrician of Asia” Award at the 12th Asian Congress of Paediatrics held in Colombo on March 12, 2007, which was presented to him by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Lifetime Achievement Award by Mumbai Branch of Indian Academy of Pediatrics in 2013. His contribution to Science consists of 3 Manuals,4 Books/Chapters and about 15 scientific publications in peer reviewed international journals. He is a popular speaker at many meetings because of his special humour.
